American breakfast spots one in east beach and one in west beach or one in the centre of the strip. The loss of Poultry in Motion for locals and visitors is still being felt. Once the pier is updated a food truck at the end that serves ice cream, or fish n chips etc.

More mixed business/residential buildings, more small, locally owned business, especially in grocery. More of these businesses in residential neighborhoods so there's less reliance on driving in order to get groceries and less reliance on mega corporations like save on/safeway

White Rock has so much potential to be a true seaside destination.

I agree restaurant diversity is important, but we need more than restaurants: cool thrift/vintage stores, independent cafés, bookstores/book cafés, artisan shops, galleries, and more inviting places for evening entertainment and socializing. What is the City doing to attract these businesses? Keep paid parking but could the City help businesses offer daytime parking validation to encourage people to shop and stay longer? We also need cleaner, more attractive storefronts.

I love the idea of a Granville Island-style market where the Boathouse was. Existing farmers’ market vendors could embrace it, although being privately owned, I’m not sure how feasible it is. If not, a King Taps would be perfect there.

I liked the extra RCMP presence this summer and think it should continue to address drinking in cars especially. WR needs to feel clean, safe and vibrant to be a true destination!

White Rock has the potential to be an amazing seaside destination, but right now it feels like we’re missing the opportunity.

I agree with the comments about restaurant diversity, but we need more than restaurants. We need cool, destination-type businesses that give people a reason to stay — vintage/thrift shops, artisan stores, flower shops, bookstores/book cafés, galleries, unique retail and more places to socialize in the evening.

The old Boathouse site could be huge. A Granville Island-style market would be incredible, especially for local vendors already in the farmers market. If that isn’t practical given the private ownership, a restaurant like King Taps would be perfect.

We need better-maintained storefronts and public spaces. Keep paid parking, but consider more daytime business validation.

I appreciated the increased nighttime RCMP presence this summer — it should continue addressing drinking in cars, litter and disruptive behaviour.

encourage live music on beaches over digital music sources
more food trucks and vendor opportunities for lower cost snacks and meals
wine tasting room to support our local wineries
more picnic tables
a market / eatery like Eataly (Toronto, New York)
a big anchor like Tap and Barrel for the big multi level restaurant space
granville island type artist and maker studio spaces
free parking for visitors to shops and restaurants - rethink paid parking entirely - we want people to visit the waterfront, the beach and the businesses here

More west coast seafood or Italian restaurants, coffee shops. (less ice cream and Indian cuisine) A market with fresh vegetables, flowers, seafood, etc. Storefronts need upgrading. More outdoor seating for take-out food. Allow dogs on patios.

Quality restraunts, serving a variety of food.
Underground wiring. Take down unsightly telephone poles.
Make sure that the trains have a heavy duty wax coating sprayed on the coal to prevent coal dust from flying into the atmosphere.
Nice boutique shops.

Sadly, the waterfront is in poor shabby condition. Many of the buildings are in disrepair and the vibe just isn't there. Coffee and ice cream shops don't make it a vibrant welcoming environment. Other cities around the world have made their waterfront Beautiful with lovely quaint shops, different types of restaurants, pedestrian areas - a place where people want to Go & Spend their money. Fix it up / clean it up and make it attractive to businesses - make it the Jewel of White Rock that it should be - Authentic, Unique and not an eyesore like it is. The city could do so much more with this gem but sadly the will to improve the area doesn't seem to be a priority.

Enforce Bylaw regarding unsightly premises and signage bylaw. Restaurants are an eyesore, with weeds and excess signage as well as many being in a dilapidated, piecemeal state.
One way traffic
Remove the unsightly telephone wires. Telephone pole removal was in your 10 year plan about 15 years ago
Boutique stores, diversity in restaurants, address vacant derelict premises
Approach to pay parking must be reviewed
Study successful, similar small towns’ (Fort Langley and Sidney) models
There isn’t any advantage to the train coming through White Rock. It creates noise, pollution and safety concerns. I realize it is a federal issue. Perhaps our MP Klassen could make it an issue.

Something tangible at the end of the pier = food, drinks, music, tables, etc.

More picnic tables along the boardwalk for takeout.

Bring back some sort of Sandcastle Festival.

There are too many ice cream shops and South Asian restaurants. It would be great to see a mix of cultures to try plus a variety of affordable and a couple higher end, pretty restaurants for large groups like the Boathouse used to accommodate for special occasions. A take out Healthy Smoothie Shop and a fresh market would also be nice on West Beach.

The waterfront needs to be freshened up with a unified beach vibe. A place that actually feels like you have “come to the beach”! Large, colourful plants and grasses at the main entrance to the beach on Marine Drive and Vidal Street, plus more murals on the parkade and paint a bright beach vibe colour with vine plants hanging on it to take away the cement and beige building look on the corner of Victoria and Vidal as you cone down the hill. Lessen the noise for residents and patrons inside and outside the parkade by installing a machine to pay at the gate to deter loitering and revving engines in the parkade plus improve safety.

Flower market/farmers market, an Italian restaurant, an Irish pub with a nice patio, a nice brunch spot like the wooden spoon. A local butcher shop or small grocery store. A cocktail lounge with music on weekends. The possibilities are endless. But please no more Indian restaurants.

I would like to see a variety of restaurants on west beach waterfront. It has become all Indian food restaurants, and as much as I love Indian food, it’s become overdone and it feels like it’s taking over the beach front. I feel like there should be a cap on any one type of restaurant style in such a small location. I know I am not alone in this thought. The strip has become over saturated and it takes away from the dining experience with choice and intrigue in the area. The non Indian restaurants such as ocean beach, Charlie’s and uli’s are now over full from anyone looking for variety and if you want anything other than Indian or a long wait for a table you have to leave the beach.

Would also love a playground at white rock beach

1
Limit the number of restaurant licenses based on repeated culinary style. Similar model to resort municipality of Whistler and Whistler Chamber of Commerce, to increase the variety of culinary options available to residents and visitors; making the town/village more interesting while also protecting current members.
2
City to buy a business property to turn into a "Public Market", manage and charge rent to rotating "tenants."

I would like to see an activity centre for youth. Something like a central city fun part/Chuck E. Cheese/Lazar tag place. The empty space where boathouse was would be an excellent space for this, it could have a rooftop patio, where parents could get snacks and drinks, youth can spend time there in the evening, one of the biggest problems in our town and generally is that we don’t provide spaces for youth. They’re too young to go out the bars and we don’t like them hanging around parks and public spaces in the evenings, but we don’t offer them any alternatives. I would like to see spaces geared at youth on the strip. I also think the Beach needs some kind of playground with climbing structures for children . White Rock needs something that draws people to the waterfront beyond what’s already there a unique attraction like the London eye or a funicular that goes up and down the hill but something to make us a unique seaside community to help draw the tourists, not just the pier.
