More restaurants that are different , there is numerous of the same type of cuisine on the strip. Breweries, cidery, or a distillery. Widening the boardwalk , and a larger pier.

Bring a flagship restaurant such as Earls, Cactus Club or JOEY to the waterfront. We all love the charm of our small businesses, but a strong anchor tenant would bring more people to the beach year-round and create more traffic for the independent businesses around it. A major chain and thriving local businesses are not mutually exclusive — stop gatekeeping.

We also desperately need more variety. There are too many similar restaurants opening next to one another. Encourage a broader mix of cuisines, cafés, retail, entertainment and services that give people more reasons to visit.

Most importantly, hold building owners accountable. Businesses are operating in buildings with serious maintenance issues, including disrepair, leaks and rodents, while facing outrageously high rents and occupancy costs. It is nearly impossible for small businesses to survive under those conditions.

Attract anchors. Encourage variety. Support small businesses. Hold landlords accountable.

So dissappointing when 1 culture is being allowed to open multiple restaurants in the area on the beach. There should be a limit of how many should be allowed to be open from all cultures. Lets get some diversity.
White Rock beach has become so unsafe with fights and rowdy groups frequenting the area. What was once a great place for families is driven by intoxicated young adults.
Please bring back our White rock

More diversity as now we have mostly restaurants. We need a balance of stores that cater to what folks want and need. For example, If someone gets a cut and needs a bandage there is no drugstore type store to even go to. It seems to be all about food down there. Let's make the strip more interesting and diverse and have stores of interest to locals and tourists.

* Old-school ice cream parlour — cones, sundaes, milkshakes, floats, striped awning, walk-up window.
* Fish & chips shack — ideally casual enough that people can walk up straight from the beach
* Beach diner / breakfast café — pancakes, eggs, burgers, pie, coffee, booths and counter stools.
* Candy shop — saltwater taffy, fudge, penny candy, caramel corn. Almost essential for that nostalgic beach-town feeling.
* Vintage arcade — pinball, skee-ball, old cabinets, claw machines. This would add enormously to the atmosphere.
* Surf/beach shop — towels, swimsuits, flip-flops, sunscreen, beach toys, inexpensive sunglasses, maybe paddleboard rentals.
* Small independent bookstore/newsstand — paperbacks, magazines, postcards, local books and beach reads.
* Record shop — vinyl, vintage posters and music playing out onto the sidewalk.
* Beach bar/pub — not upscale cocktails; something weathered and relaxed with a patio, cold beer and live music.
* Pizza-by-the-slice place

Something really needs to be done with the empty and derelict buildings on marine drive. I know the city has no way of enforcement for this but really makes the strip look bad. The variety of restaurants on marine is definitely becoming an issue, years ago there was a up roar when there was two Mexican restaurants on marine but now 3/4 of the restaurants are pretty much the same.

Not a business, but a strong municipal gallery that represents artworks from local artists.

Wave cafe should have a spot here. Local and incredible. Balanced diversity among restaurants- there should be a limit to how many of each type we allow. Boathouse could become a beautiful event venue and restaurant. Oyster shacks, creperies. Frequent shuttles.
Increase food safety inspections and standards. Even longstanding popular restaurants have become quite unclean and not properly maintained.
Rents have become unbearable- support local establishments more. Too many boarded up shops - lots of talented locals without options!

More indoor places to gather in the evenings that aren’t Pick-up spots to listen to live music, socialize, etc.
Micro breweries that will keep young people in the area
Better transportation options to Burnaby, Maple Ridge, etc.

A local artists “loft” where there are demos put on by the artists and a gift shop.
A hands on jewelry making space for adults similar to Granville Island, like a bead shop.
Different food other than Indian!
A comfort food restaurant like Moms home cooking! Mac n Cheese, Beef stew, Chicken soup and sourdough bread, Nanaimo bars and Canadian type beverages.
Make it a Canadian restaurant with decor to match.
I have a million ideas!

Quaint pubs ( Jimmy Flynn's, Slainte), Less Indian restaurants, there's far too many, and most of these restaurants are empty. They have no flair, no ambiance. Art galleries would be a nice addition. Breweries. More variety of restaurants on West Beach with Fish n Chippy's. Liquor Store would be helpful rather than having to drive up town. Local Grocer store that has local fruits, veg, meats etc.

No more East Indian business on Marine drive. A mix of ethnic restaurants is nice, but just one dominating the food scene is not interesting.
