Buena Vista Avenue Active Transportation Project

The City of White Rock is upgrading a stretch of Buena Vista Avenue, from Johnston Road to Best Street, to improve safety, accessibility, and infrastructure reliability for all ages and abilities.

This project includes:

  • Upgrades to ageing sanitary and drainage systems

  • Street-level improvements to make walking, rolling, and cycling safer and more accessible

  • Coordinated construction to minimize disruption and maximize value

Community feedback will help shape the above-ground design. Depending on input, improvements may include:

  • New sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb extensions

  • Accessible features and landscaping

  • Either a multi-use path (shared space to facilitate walking, cycling and rolling) or a dedicated two-way bike lane with a sidewalk

Why this matters:

These upgrades will make Buena Vista Avenue safer and more accessible for everyone — from residents and families to people using mobility aids, strollers, e-bikes, or scooters. In addition, this project supports Council’s Strategic Priorities (2023–2026) and the Integrated Transportation and Infrastructure Master Plan (ITIMP) and is a part of the City's long-term cycling network which will ultimately extend north along Best Street from Buena Vista Avenue to North Bluff Avenue.

Underground utility upgrades will strengthen the City’s resilience to heavy rainfall and climate change, helping to protect homes and public health, support growth, reduce maintenance costs, and ensure reliable infrastructure.

Partners:

The City is leading the project in partnership with TransLink and the Province of British Columbia, with funding support from TransLink as part of the Local Government Funding Projects and from the Province through the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant Program.

Get involved:

  • Attend the public open house on November 19, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the White Rock Community Centre (Lobby)

  • Stop by the community pop-up on November 22, 2025, between 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the White Rock Library

  • Complete the survey between November 17 (12:00 am PST) and December 12, 2025 (11:59 pm PST)

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

The City of White Rock wants to hear from residents, businesses, and community members about their preferred design option for Buena Vista Avenue.

The survey will be open from November 17 to December 12, 2025 (11:59 pm PST), and takes about 5–10 minutes to complete.

Your feedback will help shape the final design and ensure the project reflects local needs and priorities.
