Would love to see Johnston street with a bookstore, more clothing stores, gluten free bakery, wine bar. Please stop with all the vape and smoke shops. Do we really need 5 of them in a 2 block radius? I really don’t understand why the city would approve that and how on earth are these shops paying rent. How tacky. Marine drive needs more diverse restaurants. Maybe an Italian restaurant in the mix and not 10 Indian restaurants.

Specialty cafes and bakeries, there is no upscale coffee on Marine Drive! Clothing boutiques, tapas with diverse cuisine, I agree with crafting stores or outdoor adventure stores - something that makes people want to browse and wander up and down Marine Drive, especially in the winter!

More accountability for businesses to actually prove the service they got their permit for. The latest “Convenience Store” is mainly for vaping products.
We need more stores that can provide Men’s/Women’s and Children’s Quality clothing. We don’t need any more vape/Tattoo shops. No more Dentists who really just want to sell Veneers. No more south asian restaurants that are actually “Fronts” for other activities. More investigation needed before providing permits. The Boathouse, a beachfront favourite closed because of the exorbitant lease fees and taxation- why didn’t the City step in and mediate this? Tourists and Locals alike loved that family-friendly restaurant.

I'd love to see anything cultural--performance, crafts, local writers' readings, music, spaces dedicated to the arts versus just restaurants. I'd also love to see more diversity of food being offered, from Persian to Mexican to Ethiopian cuisine. I would also love to see an expansion of our heritage story and spaces--White Rock has incredible history and part of the tourism experience could be more interactive/immersive. I would love to see local vitners/local farmers more present, not just at the farmers market. Also, how about an Indigenous restaurant or bar? Can we see more spaces for reading, writing, and having non-alcoholic beverages? Spaces to gather that are not for evening but bring people together during the day like the West End community centre does so well. Lectures, lunch and learns, screenings of local filmmakers, free heritage programs.

Environmentally conscious businesses that don't pave every square inch of their property and that promote retention of vegetation and wildlife habitat. Also more businesses that participate in a circular economy and help assist the elderly and less fortunate.

I love the bigger farmers’ market. We also need an artists’ market year round so covered space. Maybe the old Boathouse? Or somewhere with parking. To give talented local artists an affordable display and sales space. Maybe with bookstores and coffee shops like a destination to spend some time. I also like the distribution of spaces for gathering for concerts. More of that. More trees and green space.

-Laundromat!
-Tanning Salon
-Bingo hall of some sort
-more Outdoor all season patios ( south surrey cactus club is a great example)
BETTER HOURS FOR BUSINESSES! ! !

- the beach needs a massive floating dock with diving boards.. beach loungers .. ladders..

the beach is a snooze fest for anyone 18 to 45 years old .

- allow beach clubs
-import sand so you can actually enjoy the beach!
- BUILD A OUTDOOR POOL !
-playground
-concession stand

All in all … i am one of those people that say JOIN SURREY ! Because White Rock seems to cry poverty every 4 years .

BUILD ROUND ABOUTS !
PUT IN LIGHTS !!!!
LEFT TURN SIGNALS!!!!

THE CITY NEEDS SIDE WALKS !!!!!

I can go on and on . But there ya go !

OH maybe work with the first nations and the city of Surrey to get that derelict park back open in east beach ! Embarrassing .

We live down by the beach on Marine and Vidal and would love to see a clean, fresh new, unified look with businesses that represent a colourful seaside community such as Steveston and also businesses that represent the beach.

West Beach Parkade is the one of the main entries to the beach, our “seaside community”, yet it is surrounded by beige buildings, grey concrete and the dirty backside of restaurants. Not a very welcoming sight. Paint it with something colourful and fun vines growing on the side that make it look like more of an art installation. It would be a great welcome and distraction from the backside of restaurants. Colourful shrubbery, palm type shrubs and tall grasses for a better beach vibe in front of the parkade.

A fresh market and restaurant variety plus a higher end one for special occasions would be nice. Vape and Cannabis type stores take away the family and beach vibe. More daily options for residents might help Marine Drive economy year round.

I would like to see White Rock become even more of an artistic community -- art galleries, craft supply stores, yarn & fabric shops, weaving studios, housing with reduced rent spaces with artist lofts (musicians, actors, painters, fabric artists, photographers, fashion designers, etc.). It would be most effective if they were centered around a hub so that it becomes a destination -- eg uptown or Marine Drive along the beach. Scattered among them would be unique little coffee shops and restaurants, book stores, and anything artistically related.

I would love to see the end of vape shops here. More variety of restaurants on Marine Drive and Johnston Rd. Transforming the Boathouse into a Granville Island style farmers market would be a great use of that space and help us support local all year round. I’d love to see a bookstore, outdoor/adventure store, generally more mixed local business and less souvenir shops that sell identical goods. A unified vibe and identity is what this amazing community lacks. Right now it feels like a patchwork of individual businesses with no cohesion. As a new resident, it seems like a no-brainer to fully lean into the beach-vibe of this place.

I am writing as I disappointed that three Vape shops have been opened lately on152nd St. They portray them selves as conveniene store but there selling vaping, cigarttes and hoka pipes. One of them is right across the street from the elementary school. Who is giving out the business licenses to a person or company running all three stores? This not what we need in our community.

This is tough. I googled top 50 businesses for a small community. We have the majority of them other than surf, boat, and jetski items and a gas station. Since we are an extension of south Surrey, what we lack is within reach (other than a movie theatre which would be nice to have). The art centre (long overdue) will be addressed after the election. Quite a while ago, Elaine Cheung and I were talking about new businesses and she mentioned a place for teenagers to go, such as an arcade. The farmers market expansion was a great idea and it brings a lot of people and business to the area. I think this is a fabulous idea! As well, there are too many restaurants with the same type of food as well as too many cannibus/vape shops, nail salons and acupuncture clinics. When I think about other places I have been, I what we are missing is a "vibe" a "reputation" other than that of a seniors' enclave.

Thanks for asking. Agree with many other commentators re no more vape / weed shops, the need to clean up Marine Drive, and the availability/cost of parking being a deterrent for visitors and vendors alike. Steveston and Ft Langley are not perfect, but seem to be more successful at developing attractive, walkable neighbourhoods. In White Rock I'd love to see more art galleries, boutiques, nice bakeries/coffee shops, a variety of restaurants (so sorry to see the Boathouse go!). More vendors featuring locally-sourced offerings. Let's support our "made in Canada" producers. The White Rock Archives/museum is a great resource in a prime location. Can this be more accessible / appealing? We have a gorgeous waterfront and attractive promenade and pier. Lots to be proud of. At the same time, it's difficult to balance over-crowding in summer and sparse numbers of visitors (possibly discouraged by parking fees) in winter.
